I’m Phillip Michael Sherman, an independent candidate for the District 6 seat on the Knox County Board of Education. Originally from East Tennessee, the Karns area has been home since 2008. I love raising my two daughters in this community and am so grateful for the education and support they have received over the years from Knox County Schools! I am excited about all the ways I plan to help our schools grow and thrive.

My wife and I are both educators. Suzanne has served students for sixteen years in Knox County Schools and I teach Religious Studies and Ethics at Maryville College.

I am running because I am committed to the power of fully-funded public education to create opportunities for all students, dedicated to honoring the professionalism of our teachers and support staff, and optimistic about building a transparent and accountable Board of Education.

I believe leadership is best when listening to and learning from as many voices as possible. You won’t hear me claiming to have all the answers to the questions and challenges facing Knox County Schools, but I can promise that I will strive to listen and ask better questions every day. Its only by listening to each other and asking the right questions together that we can build the best educational system for all our students.

Listening. Learning. Leading.
